about the blog
This blog is about creative things and experiences related to them. Some specific creative things addressed here involve website programming and genre (sf/f/horror/etc) poetry, both of which the author has personal experience with. He reserves the right to post about anything else that comes to mind too. Mostly that will probably be in the areas of science and information technology, which are the most creative and dynamic field of endeavor in all of human history. But there’s no telling what could show up in these pages at one time or another. Sticking to a rigid theme wouldn’t be very creative, would it?
The name
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHAOS_Program for an interesting take on the words. This historical factoid has nothing to do with why the blog has this name but it was the first thing that came up in a Google search for the term and I thought that, in context, it was amusing.
Chaos Program is an intentionally vague term. It could mean a computer program that is intended to explode into horrible chaos. It could mean that no program is ever as organized as we’d like it to be. It could describe an anarchic approach to politics. It could even refer to the economic principle of “creative destruction,” though this blog is not about economics. The Wikipedia reference above seems to refer to controlling or monitoring societal entropy.
Or it could just be a better sounding name than “The Educated Idiot” or some other stuff I could have picked.
